About the Christian Art Museum

Visitors enjoy The Upper Room Christian Art Museum, whose permanent collection reflects the international, interracial, and interdenominational ministry of The Upper Room. From November through January, the museum exhibits The Night of the Child, a collection of over 100 nativity scenes, renditions from papier-mache to exquisite porcelains, carved wood and stone to natural dried seed pods all representing over 30 cultures around the world. Many international Upper Room devotional language editions can be seen within this exhibit. From March through May, guests may view a special Lenten and Easter collection entitled Faces of the Passion of Christ. This exhibit features 70 Ukrainian Eggs, bronze and wooden sculptures and paintings telling the Passion story.

Faces of the Passion of Christ ,running March through May, tells the stories of Jesus through oil paintings, bronze and wooden sculptures and Ukrainian Eggs.  Natural eggs shells using the Pysanky method of wax resist designs use colors and Christian symbols to represent the life of Jesus and his followers.  Over 50 eggs designed by Cheryl Christensen represent Holy Week events along with symbols of the Lenten Season and the beauty of spring.  Many eggs also reflect the traditional symbols used in the Ukrainian tradition to represent  events in human life.

The Agape Garden is especially beautiful in mid April as the dogwood trees are in full bloom highlighting the fountain and sculptures of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well.  The garden symbols represent the Garden of Gethsemane and the Resurrection Garden appearances of Jesus. The garden is open year round.

Winter Season Night of the Child Nativity and Painting Exhibit runs December - January

The Night of the Child Nativity Collection features more than 100 international nativity scenes representing 30 cultures. Many of these cultures use the international editions of The Upper Room Daily Devotional Guide published here in Nashville, TN.

The nativity scenes range from papier-mâché to exquisite woodcarvings and porcelains, whimsical to dramatic. A Moravian Putz style display features a 100 piece Fontanini set from Italy.

The Madonna and Child Gallery of Hope ranges in art from 1350 to the 20th C and includes beautiful copies of several of Raphael's Madonna paintings.
